Vibrato and Tremolo are used inconsistently. A vibrato FX basically variates the frequency whereas tremolo variates the volume. This is with the exception that there are several FX units called vibrato which actually can be called tremolo., e.g. Marshall VT-1

However the guitar's tremolor bar does the opposite: it is called tremolo, but shifts the frequency.
